Introduction

The Unistrut Sliding Bike Hooks are versatile and useful for storing bike and gear. The best way to get inspiration is from looking at what others have done. Each situation is different and each solution is unique. This page is dedicated to real world installations. Show us your installation for others to learn from.

Outdoor Shed

This application is in a small outdoor shed. A single 10ft strut is being used to store several mountain bikes. The system saves space and allows access to other items in the shed.

Dual Rail with bikes and tools

This dual rail setup does double duty storing four mountain bikes and variety of equipment like hedge cutters, leaf blowers and grass trimmers. This system uses two 10foot rails and allows four mountain bikes to occupy space in front of a storage shelf, and over cars parked in the garage. The rails are long enough so the bikes can be slid to a convenient location allowing easy loading and unloading.

Up and out of the way

The hooks in this situation were ordered in a configuration perpendicular to the sliding strut channel. The strut channel allowed the customer to use vertical space over a door way and reclaim valuable space while making the bikes accessible.

Single strut channel in front of water heater

Every situation is different and this user used a single 5 foot strut channel to store bikes and tools in front of a water heater and to the side of a work table. The bikes and tools are out of the way but when needed are easy to access.

Wall Mount with Shelf

This is a great use of the wall mount brackets for storing more bikes in less space. Two Rights and Left were used along with some general purpose brackets to reinforce the shelf spans. A great 24″ shelf and the addition of 1/2″ conduit rod for storing gear adds a ton of utility and maintains a super clean area. Well done!

Wall mount with shelves in a closet

Wall mount brackets were used to make use of this space in a narrow closet for a sliding bike rack. Before this installation the bikes were piled up in a way making some of the bike inaccessible. Smaller shelf bracket were used along with the wall mounts to add storage capacity to the shelves. Great work!

Wall Mount under Garage Door Rail

The area under your garage door railing is a great place to store your bikes. The wall mount brackets are designed for this and allows the added bonus of getting a usable shelf. Here the user purchased two inexpensive pre-made 12″x72″ shelves and used #10 self tapping screws to secure them in place. This installation puts the bikes 85.5″ from the ground and the installation was completed in about an hour, Bravo!

Single Strut Channel under custom shelf

This installation blew us away, as the customer made a custom storage shelf. The strut channel was hung at the front of the shelf with a beautiful back facia and floor mounted storage rack, topping it off with an amazing American flag!

Fat Tire Hook

Recently some requests for Fat Tire hooks came around, so GearBlocks has made a Fat Tire hook available. Here a single strut channel is used to hang this large Fat Tire bike.

This gentleman has his priorities set! Bikes are life. Here the user has used wood stringers to span ceiling joists to allow the strut channel to mount at a good distance (~18″) from two closet doors. The bikes slide effortlessly allowing access to the bike of choice and granting access to the closets and items inside.

Custom storage shelf build into storage shed

This 8ft single Unistrut installation was a lot of fun. GearBlocks worked with the installer to work out how to best utilize the space and construction of this outdoor storage shed. The before space was packed with bikes and tools. The installer used a combination of lumber and an HVAC unit support bracket from ACE hardware. The bracket provides support in the middle sections out to 16″. The shelf was designed around an 18″ top, putting the strut channel about 17″ from the wall. The back wall and side walls of the shed provide additional support.

Single 10ft strut channel in work shop

This clean installation reclaimed valuable space. The perfectly positioned rafter made installation simple. The 10ft strut channel allows for bikes to easily slide to the side to make the pick of the day a breeze. A clever strap is used on the road bike to get the handle bars at just the right height.

Single Strut with support rod

This was an installation all the way in New Zealand. A single strut was used to reclaim space under the garage door slide. A shelf was constructed and a threaded rod was used to brace the center of the span. This installer used clear plastic tubing for additional wear protection. The installer was only able to find a 3 meter strut channel that was knurled. The photo below shows preferred smooth strut channel and the knurled version.

Single Strut near water heater

This installer from the EU reclaimed space near a water heater. These high end bike look great hanging under the garage door slide. Small items like a rim and bag strap get to join in with their own hooks. These standard hooks worked well for cross country style tires less than 2.3inches wide.

Single Strut In Front of Garage Door

The ability to easily slide the bikes around allows the bikes to occupy high traffic spaces like this one. A single strut channel is hung from a cleverly build loft which hangs over the garage door. By removing the end stops the hooks can be removed in a matter of minutes to allow the garage door to slide open. A simple brace was added to the middle of the loft to increase the rigidly of the shelf. The owner here was able to order standard, large and a Fat Tire hook to match a variety of different bikes. Well done!

Sliding Bike Storage Project

This customer had very unique installation under a garage door rail with a closet which was blocked by bikes. This installer requested the hooks be set perpendicular to the track. Two 5 foot tracks were placed end to end to make a longer track (Nice!). In any case enjoy the video!
